Insights from psychological research into environments – part one.
This training explores insights from Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE) and Trauma Informed Design (TID). The aim is to challenge an Anglo-American tendency to focus on the individual and their behaviours, at the expense of understanding the influence of the environment. The content is grounded in academic research with people trying to exit homelessness and domestic abuse. It is excellent content for practitioners seeking to connect with the social purpose of the regulated housing sector.
Content includes:
- An introduction to why a focus on the environment matters.
- Insights from PIE are particularly useful for insights into how environmental changes may enhance tenancy sustainment.
- TID draws out the effects of trauma and asks attendees to consider how services can account for this.
This module suits everyone interested in understanding environmental influences on our behaviour and how environments and services can be redesigned to account for and reduce the effects of housing-related trauma.
