ABOUT
TAROE Trust.
TAROE Trust is an independent charity for regulated/social housing tenants and residents in England. We centre tenants and residents in our work with government, landlords and research institutions and offer training and support for tenants.

TAROE Trust has its roots in the tenants’ rights movement and has a history dating back to 1976. In 2013, we transitioned from a membership model to a charitable one, increasing our capacity to secure funding and collaborate with organisations sharing our values and goals.
Our work is focused on three areas:
Ideas – we understand the value of ideas and knowledge in shaping practice and purpose. We seek to innovate from within the housing sector, working with partners such as universities, charities and research institutes to explore what is important to tenants and residents. We believe new ideas are at the core of changing regulated housing for the better and you can read about our <thinking here<need to link to a blog/report tab>.
Practice – What matters to tenants and residents centres on core issues such as the quality of their home, neighbourhoods and landlord services. We believe new ideas should inform practice, and that ideas can also benefit from learning from what is already done well in the sector. We tend towards collaborative and emotionally informed approaches to housing practice and you can find out more about our services here <link to services tab>.
Campaign – We believe that the politics of housing needs to change and that tax-subsidised housing should be a tenure of first choice. Everyone benefits from safe, secure housing and the stability and well-being provided by a home. We understand that we are swimming against the tide of property-as-investment ideologies. Our focus, for now, is on ensuring tenants are centred in policymaking as it currently stands, while we continue to campaign for the political and cultural change needed for tax-subsidised housing to be valued again.
