Insights from psychological research into environments – part two.

This training builds on the first module and introduces more emotional concepts from development economics and geography. When combined with the insights from part one, attendees will develop an understanding of why the material environment and hidden emotional understanding of the home matter in housing work.

Content includes:

  • Effects of environments of poverty on our minds.
  • Capability theory.
  • Why we explain away the harms caused by environments of poverty.
  • Imagination – why it matters.
  • Insights from geography into the meaning of home.
  • The ambiguous relationship we have with home.
  • The idea that home-making is a process.

The content of this module is more challenging than part one as the ideas are very new to housing practice. The aim is to spark innovation and thinking. It is suitable for organisations that are seeking to innovate in practice to develop better relationships with tenants.
